If you know me you know I have a love - hate relationship with the gym. Some days I love it, infact most days I love it, but if I have some time away from it... I absolutely cannot stand the idea of getting back into it. So here's my tips of how I motivate myself to get back into the gym, or just back into working out.
1. Buy A New Activewear Outfit
I love fashion and clothes, so for me, getting a new gym set that is comfortable and looks good really makes me want to just get it on and get to the gym. Finding the right Gym outfit that is comfortable for you, and makes you feel great can be a little difficult but I find high waisted leggings, a matching sports bra and a looser fit vest or t-shirt over the top is my go to. My favourite brands for activewear are Tala, Alphalete and of course Gymshark.
2. Visualise Yourself As Stronger and Healthier
Visualisation is so powerful for actually changing your mood - its shown that visualisation can actually release the same hormones as actually experiencing something. So, try this... Close your eyes and in your mind, walk to the place in your house where your mirror is that you see yourself in everyday - this could be your bathroom where you brush your teeth or your dressing room where you get ready. When you get to the mirror, look at your future self, what does she look like? Is she stronger? Is she fitter? Is she slimmer or more curvy? Now look at her face, shes glowing with happiness and shes so proud of herself. It feels amazing to see yourself like this, you feel on top of the world. When you open your eyes, you know what you have to do to be her - now go do it.
3. Force Yourself - Be Disciplined First, Routine will follow.
When you're in a routine of working out and it becomes part of your weekly habits, its so easy to stay in the flow. But holidays, being ill, being busy etc can throw you off course. Sometimes this is for weeks, sometimes months or even years. I'm going to give you the hard truth, you need to give yourself a kick up the arse and get back into it. No, its not going to be easy, at least not for the first few workouts. But commit to 3 workouts a week and tell yourself it is non-negotiable - you're doing this to be that person you saw in the mirror - and let me tell you something you already know - noone can do it for you.
Now, I better get my ass to the gym!
