4 Ingredients Recipe for Easy French Bread
So after many a trial and error I've found the perfect (and easiest) way to make the best crusty french bread bound to get you wifed up. Brush with a little garlic butter when finished and WOW till death do us part. I use a mixer with a dough hook because I'm lazy af, but its just as easy to do by hand. I have linked my kitchen products from Amazon too, just to make your life easier.
Ingredients:
50ml warm water
one packet 7.5g active dry yeast / fast action
450g bread flour (wholemeal or strong white)
2 teaspoons salt
280ml cool water (you may not need all of the water with white flour)
additional flour, for dusting
The How To:
Measure the warm water in a small jug and sprinkle the yeast on top. Put aside to allow the yeast to dissolve and become foamy.
Measure the bread flour into a large steel bowl and stir in your salt.
Make a well in the centre of the flour, and stir in the dissolved yeast.
Add the cool water, a little at a time, while stirring, just until a stiff, shaggy dough has formed (you may not need to use all of the water).
Cover the bowl with a tea towel and allow it to rest for 30 mins.
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured work surface, and gently form it into a rectangle and fold and press the end into the middle of the dough ball. Turn 90 degrees and repeat 3 times - so all four sides were folded in. - Do not knock the air out of it otherwise you'll end up with a bread flatter then my ass rn.
Place the dough in a large oiled bowl smooth side on top, folded parts on the underneath, and cover with damp tea towel. Allow it to rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 and a half hours).
Divide the dough into 3 equal portions (think Mercedes sign), and softly shape each one into a long loaf (about 20-inches long and 2-inches in diameter), with pointed ends.
Place the loaves on a floured tea towel, cover with oiled plastic wrap, and allow to rise until doubled in bulk (about 30 to 45 minutes).
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C, and place a pan of water on the bottom rack. - This is essential and probably the reason your baguettes weren't shit hot last time...
Uncover the baguettes and transfer to lightly greased baking sheets or silicone sheet.
Sprinkle with flour, and make 4 elongated slashes down each one with a sharp knife.
Bake the breads until crusty and brown (in my oven this takes around 35 to 40 minutes). The baguettes should give a hollow sound when tapped.
Thank me later, and I want an invite to the wedding.
